The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the producers of acetaminophen, alleging the firms hid alleged dangers that the medication created to pediatric cognitive development.

This legal action comes a month after President Donald Trump advocated an unproven link between using acetaminophen - also known as acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

The attorney general is filing suit against the pharmaceutical giant, which previously sold the drug, the sole analgesic suggested for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he stated they "misled consumers by gaining financially from suffering and promoting medication ignoring the dangers."

The manufacturer says there is insufficient reliable data tying acetaminophen to autism.

"These corporations misled for generations, intentionally threatening millions to increase profits," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

The manufacturer commented that it was "seriously troubled by the spread of false claims on the reliability of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the well-being of US mothers and children."

On its official site, the company also mentioned it had "regularly reviewed the applicable studies and there is insufficient valid information that shows a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism."

Groups acting on behalf of medical professionals and health professionals agree.

The leading OB-GYN organization has declared paracetamol - the primary component in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for expectant mothers to address discomfort and fever, which can present serious health risks if left untreated.

"In multiple decades of research on the consumption of paracetamol in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has definitively established that the consumption of acetaminophen in any trimester of gestation results in neurodevelopmental disorders in young ones," the group commented.

This legal action mentions latest statements from the former administration in asserting the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Recently, Trump caused concern from medical authorities when he instructed women during pregnancy to "struggle intensely" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The US Food and Drug Administration then issued a notice that physicians should contemplate reducing the usage of acetaminophen, while also declaring that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in children has not been established.

Health Secretary RFK Jr, who supervises the FDA, had pledged in spring to initiate "extensive scientific investigation" that would determine the cause of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But authorities warned that identifying a unique factor of autism - thought by researchers to be the consequence of a intricate combination of inherited and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of enduring cognitive variation and disability that affects how people experience and interact with the surroundings, and is diagnosed using medical professional evaluations.

In his lawsuit, the attorney general - aligned with the former president who is running for the Senate - claims Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the science" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case seeks to make the corporations "destroy any commercial messaging" that states acetaminophen is reliable for women during pregnancy.

The court case parallels the complaints of a group of parents of minors with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the producers of Tylenol in two years ago.

A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit, saying research from the family's specialists was inconclusive.
