The supporters of liberal America and Maga backers were positioned eager to witness their champions face off. After all, the President had before called Zohran Mamdani as a “total communist extremist” and “total nut job”. The soon-to-be leftist New York mayor had in turn called the GOP US leader a “despot” and “authoritarian”.

Yet observers anticipating to witness heated exchange and shirts torn in the presidential office were in for a surprise. The President, in his late seventies, and young Zohran Mamdani actually interacted quite positively. In fact beautifully, perplexingly, bizarrely well. Rather than classic rivalry, this was Toy Story friends like old pals.

Perhaps the old progressive against traditional binaries are truly obsolete. This was a case of talent acknowledging talent – of Queens recognising Queens.

The President is now on significantly improved relations with the mayor-elect than with his fellow Republican. The incoming mayor experienced a more positive greeting from the President than from the representatives of his own party – a situation radically changed.

This Companion Movie Begins

The friendly encounter started with Donald Trump positioned behind the Oval Office desk and Zohran positioned to his right, a sculpture of the first president behind him. “There is an important element in alignment – we want New York of ours that we love to do very well,” the leader stated, referring to the city.

He added: “I think we'll see hopefully a really great city leader. The greater his success – the happier I feel. I will say there’s no difference in political affiliation, we agree in anything, and we’re going to be supporting the mayor to help everybody’s dream come true, creating a powerful and very safe New York.”

The loud sound was the noise of Oval Office reporters’ chins dropping to the floor of the White House. That ripping noise was the outcome of GOP advisors destroying their strategy to demonise Mamdani as the Marxist face of the Democrats.

This Bromance Progresses

The bromance – as incongruous as Donald Trump exchanging banter with Barack Obama at former President Carter's last rites – went on with plenty of tactile body language. The mayor-elect, who will be the first Muslim mayor of the city and once proclaimed himself “Trump's ultimate opponent”, commented: “The meeting was a productive meeting concentrating on a subject of shared appreciation and affection, which is NYC, and the imperative to ensure financial ease to New Yorkers.”

Once journalists started posing points, Trump admitted that Zohran has perspectives that are “unconventional” but predicted he is “moderate” and “may shock” some right-wing voters, truly”.

Shared Interests

Both leaders observed that a number of Mamdani supporters had additionally supported Donald Trump. The progressive explained it was because of “cost of living, cost of living, cost of living” – and he expressed hope to delivering with the president on “economic relief”. The President admitted: “Several of the mayor's ideas are indeed the identical thoughts that I hold.”

“It's fine. Simply state in agreement. Understood?” The President remarked, touching Mamdani gently on the shoulder. “It’s easier … than explaining it. It doesn't bother me.”

Cute – but historians may argue that a US leader lightly dismissing the label dictator was not an exemplary event in the history of the republic.

Sticking Up for the Incoming Leader

Donald Trump jumped in again when a reporter questioned Mamdani why he traveled to DC instead of using rail transport, which uses less pollutants. “I will defend you,” the leader declared, before saying flying was quicker and Mamdani was occupied.

Additionally when an individual inquired about Republican representative a supporter, a dedicated advocate running for governor of New York state having branded Mamdani “a jihadist”, the leader commented he did not agree, describing Mamdani “quite reasonable”.

It's easy to picture the representative being reached for comment and exclaiming, “Never!”
