Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to comment publicly against the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen polarizing arguments and further divisions across the nation.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Jennifer Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, election after election, celebrities have no real impact at all on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”

Political Evolution

Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal candidates throughout her life. Growing up with conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and explaining she realized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.

Past Statements

Earlier in her career, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to defend women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term seems distinct,” noted the actress regarding his administration. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”

New Release

Lawrence is highlighting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in rural Montana. Speaking at a interview session for the film in Venice, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”

Wider Issues

She continued by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”

She aimed to shift outrage about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment endorsed by thousands of arts community members to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Individual Insights

Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her work in the new film. Even though Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she identified with parts of her film narrative after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.

“It was fear regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she commented, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
